The Korrewegwijk is situated north east of the innercity of Groningen. Five minutes biking will take you straight to the remarkable innercity. The Stee in Stad houses were built shortly after World War II in the Nieuw-Indische buurt (new Indonesian neighbourhood).
The Nieuw-Indische buurt was part of an expansion of the department of municipal works in cooperation with architect H.P. Berlage in 1928. A big part of the neighbourhood was built before World War II. The post war part got a high density of houses, a quick fix for the shortage in housing then. Identical flats and upper/lower houses were build in rapid speed. They were surrounded by hedges so cars would be invisible. The Korrewegwijk has developed into a neighbourhood that holds it’s strength through diversity.
